Auto Body Repair Estimates

Getting an Auto Body Repair Estimate After a Car Accident

When you’ve been involved in a car accident the thought of cost is overwhelming. Getting your car fixed can definitely come with a hefty price tag. It’s important that you know what you’re doing and going to a place you can trust. The team here at Collision Centerz in Ogden, UT have a few tips for getting an auto body repair estimate.

Do Your Research

You always want to get as much information as you can about a repair shop. Being able to see other customer’s reviews and experiences can help in making your decision. While it would be convenient to just bring your vehicle into the closest shop to you, it could also cost you a lot. If the estimate is too low, the amount quoted might not cover the actual repairs.

Get the Process Started on Your Own

If an insurance company is taking its time with inspections or estimates, don’t let that stress you out. If you are able to pay for damages out of pocket and get reimbursed later; get two independent auto body repair estimates. Give the insurance company some time and then you can go ahead and get your car repaired.

Once your vehicle is fixed, keep your receipts and send them over to your insurance company. One thing you want to keep in mind is that if you go to the auto repair shop that quoted you the highest for your repairs, the insurance company may only reimburse you for the lower priced estimate. Also, if you do decide to go this route, the insurance company will not need to pay for any rental cars or transportation, so keep that in mind.

Be Cautious of Low Estimates

If the other driver’s insurance company will be covering your repair costs, you still want to do your research. If the third-party insurance adjuster gives you a very low estimate compared to what you got on your own, definitely question it. Check around at a couple more auto repair shops and see what estimates they give you. If two or three of them are much higher than the one that the third-party insurance adjuster gives to you, the estimate is probably inaccurate. You are able to choose which shop you want your car repaired at, no matter how much your settlement is. After all, you’ll be the one driving it again so it should be running in tip-top shape.
